Browse Places
From SharedTree Wiki
This page needs a significant amount of discussion.
Browse Places is an experimental page for creating a database of linked places.
SharedTree is trying to document locations or places over time. As we identify and document a specific place and time we can attach events to these records. We can also document relationships between places and time periods. The following are examples of facts we are trying to document:
- When was this location founded or created? This could be due to a war changing political boundaries or a government (local or national) renaming the area.
- If this is a renaming (see above) then what was the previous name?
- When did this name cease to exists (see above)?
- What larger political area is this a part of?
- What is the location today? Modern name of location and/or GPS coordinates
It's important to remember the goals of documenting the places during genealogy research.
- List the original location to cross reference near by events and people
- List the modern location so that we can find that area if we need to travel to it
