Invite Relatives

From SharedTree Wiki

SharedTree is best when, well, it's shared. That's why we like it most when you share a FREE membership with one of your relatives. In fact, this is actually a huge help to your relatives since this enables them to link directly into your tree. This is great for children who are just getting into genealogy or for cousins wanting a copy of your work.

Who's in the list?

The Invite Relatives list will show you all LIVING relatives in your Family Tree Index who are more than 13 years old and do not yet have a SharedTree account. You'll need their email address to send them an invite.

What is in the email?

SharedTree will send them an email on your behalf that looks like this:

PERSONS_NAME

Here is an invitation to OpenWillow. By joining this free genealogy service you automatically get access to our family's genealogy and have the ability to contribute yourself. Use the link below to register. This secret link will allow you to access your own genealogy record instantly.

YOUR NAME

  • PERSON_ID means the unique identifier for their personal genealogy record
  • SECRETKEY is a random key that allows them to secretly identify themselves as the recipient of the email
  • YOUR NAME is of course your first and last name

Can I personalize the email?

You can customize the message to say whatever you want, but make sure you keep the link intact or your relative won't be able to sign up correctly.

Can I send them another invite?

Your relatives stay on the list until they accept an invitation.

How do I invite my non-related friends?

Just send them a link to the website and tell them to join. :)
